Project background
Off-the-shelf robotics compute units rarely match the exact I/O, power, and environmental needs of a given platform. The client wanted a purpose-built control unit reusable across their product lines.
Challenge
Balancing compute, I/O density, thermal design, and cost on a single board; and surviving the vibration, dust, and temperature range of real outdoor operation.
Approach & solution
We designed a ruggedized carrier for a commercial SoM, with industrial CAN, Ethernet, GPIO, and power inputs. Thermal design was validated before prototyping. Firmware standardizes device enumeration and exposes a stable API to higher-level software.
Results & benefits
The control unit now anchors multiple robot platforms with a single board design, reducing engineering burden per new product. Environmental testing confirmed the unit's suitability for real-world deployment.
