Project background
Substations increasingly need IP-level monitoring beyond traditional SCADA, both for asset health and for newer analytics use cases. The client wanted a non-invasive monitoring package compatible with existing protection systems.
Challenge
Adding monitoring without touching protection-critical equipment, respecting strict substation EMC and thermal environments, and integrating with both legacy SCADA and new cloud analytics.
Approach & solution
We designed an edge gateway that sits alongside existing protection, consuming data via IEC 61850 and legacy protocols without disturbing them. Locally, the gateway serves SCADA needs; remotely, it pushes telemetry to cloud analytics. Environmental hardening was validated through testing.
Results & benefits
Substations now expose rich telemetry to enterprise analytics without impacting primary operations. Rollouts to additional sites follow a standard template.
